Hands-On Addition Exploration

"Adding Using Fingers" invites students to explore addition in a tactile and visual way, using their own hands to solve addition problems. Here's how it works:

  • Craft Setup: Students begin by cutting out handprints, either by tracing their own hands or using the handprints provided in the download. They then glue the handprints onto the worksheet, ensuring to only apply glue to the palms of the handprints to allow the fingers to remain movable.

  • Addition Practice: Once the handprints are in place,

students tackle addition questions at the bottom of the page. For example, if the question is 3 + 4, students arrange the fingers on one handprint to represent 3 fingers up and another handprint to represent 4 fingers up. By counting the fingers, students discover that 3 + 4 equals 7.

Benefits of "Adding Using Fingers" Craft Activity

  • Engaging and Interactive: By using their own hands to represent numbers, students actively engage in the addition process, fostering a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.
