What is the Spell CVC Words Resource?

The Spell CVC Words resource consists of 12 printable worksheets, each containing 5 different CVC words for students to practice. The worksheets are designed to give students hands-on practice with identifying and spelling simple words that follow the CVC pattern.

For each word, students are presented with:

  1. A picture representing the CVC word (e.g., a picture of a mop).

  2. Six letters next to the picture, which include the correct letters to spell the word and a few extra letters.

  3. Students must colour in the correct letters that they would use to spell the word.

  4. Finally, students will write the CVC word in a space provided, using the letters they coloured as a guide.

Some examples of CVC words in this set include words like "cat," "mop," "net," "bat," and many more!

How to Use the Spell CVC Words Resource

This resource is flexible and can be used in a variety of educational settings, whether in the classroom, at home, or as part of individual tutoring. Here are a few ways to integrate the worksheets into your teaching:

  1. Phonics and Spelling PracticeThese worksheets are an excellent tool for reinforcing phonics skills. As students identify the correct letters to spell the words, they are practicing their understanding of sound-letter correspondence, which is a key part of early reading development.

  2. Morning Work or Bell-Ringer Activity: Use the Spell CVC Words worksheets as a warm-up activity when students arrive at school. It’s a great way to start the day with a focused spelling task, helping students to transition into their learning mindset.

  3. Small Group Work: These worksheets can also be used in small group settings. Have students work in pairs or small groups to identify and spell the CVC words. This encourages collaboration and allows them to learn from one another as they discuss the correct letters and spelling patterns.

  4. Colour and Spell Station: Set up a phonics station in your classroom where students can complete one or two of these worksheets as part of a rotation. This allows for independent learning and reinforces letter recognition and fine motor skills as they colour and write.

  5. Take-Home Practice: Send the worksheets home for additional spelling practice. Parents can help their children with the task, reinforcing what they’ve learned in the classroom. It’s a great way to bridge the gap between school and home learning.
