How to Use Cookie Jars

1. Download the Cookie Jars resource by clicking the button at the bottom of this post. Print out the cookie jar template and enough cookie cutouts for your students.

2. Cut out the cookie jar template and laminate it for durability. Then, cut out all the individual cookies.

3. Place the cookie jar template in a math center or designated area where students can easily access it.

4. Invite students to pick a cookie from the pile and examine the number of chocolate chips on the cookie.

5. Based on the number of chocolate chips, students will then place the cookie on the corresponding number inside the cookie jar. For example, if a cookie has 3 chocolate chips, students will place it on the number 3 in the cookie jar.

6. Encourage students to count aloud as they place each cookie in the jar, reinforcing both number recognition and counting skills.

7. The resource can be used repeatedly in math centers or small group activities, providing students with ample opportunities to practice and reinforce their understanding of numbers.
