Fruit Salad Fractions
At Smart Boarding School, we believe that learning about fractions can be as fun and colourful as a fruit salad! That's why we're excited to introduce a delightful craft activity aimed at kindergarten and year 1 students: "Fruit Salad Fractions." Get ready to slice, dice, and learn about halves and quarters in a deliciously creative way!

"Fruit Salad Fractions" is a hands-on craft activity designed to help students explore and understand fractions, with a focus on halves and quarters. Through this interactive activity, students not only learn about fractions but also develop their fine motor skills and creativity.

Print and Prepare
Teachers begin by printing out the fruit images provided in the resource. There are three different options for printing: Page 2 with no scaffolding, where students need to cut the fruit in half without any lines to help; Page 3 with a line to help
students identify where halfway is for cutting the fruit in half; and Page 4, where students can cut the fruit into quarters.
Cut and Create
Students then cut out the fruit images according to their chosen printing option. Depending on the page selected, students will practice cutting the fruit into halves or quarters. This process allows students to engage with fractions in a hands-on and tangible way.
Build the Fruit Salad
Once the fruit pieces are cut out, students can then glue them onto the bowl provided on Page 5 of the worksheet. By arranging the fruit pieces in the bowl, students visually represent fractions and create their very own fruit salad masterpiece.
